Stewart R Cunningham Outdoor Centres were the main sponsors for the successful Newton Stewart Walking Fesitval held 12-14 May 2006 The Newton Stewart Walking Festival, held 12-14 May this year, proved a great success, so much so that organisers are proposing to extend the programme to a week-long WalkFest next year. Almost all the walks were booked solid, and eveyone greatly enjoyed the Ceilidh on the Friday evening. WalkFest '06 offered something for everyone. At one end of the range there was the Toddlers' Walk with the Forestry Wildlife Ranger (suitable for buggies & wheelchairs); at the other a Mountain Adventure high-level ridge walk along The Rhinns of Kells. And there were 14 more walks at all grades in between, led by experienced leaders, usually members of the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team. If the Festival is extended to a week's walking in 2007, more people will be able to enjoy much more of the beautiful scenery to be found in this part of Scotland.

2005 saw Stewart R Cunningham Outdoor Centres venture north of the Border for the first time. The shop on Victoria Street in Newton Stewart serves an area that is really one of Scotland's best-kept secrets, offering as it does a wide range of outdoor pursuits, from walking & cycling, to bird-watching & fishing - all in the beautiful surroudings of Galloway. To cater to such a wide customer base, this branch offers premium brands, among them Jack Wolfskin, to suit the nature of the area. While the traditional exterior of the premises was preserved to stay in keeping with the surrounding buildings, the interior received a complete refurbishment - with a contemporary twist - making it a modern shopping experience.
